Honor A Veteran This Veteran's Day

As Veterans Day approaches, Darien’s American Legion Post 137—The Unknown Soldier—is once again honoring our local heroes with the Veterans Day Sign Project. Last year, this initiative proudly displayed over 50 personalized signs along Darien’s main street, showcasing the photos and stories of our American veterans. This year, we aim to double that number, ensuring even more of our veterans receive the recognition they deserve.

Each sign is a lasting tribute, made locally, and features a veteran's picture along with important details about their service. These signs are displayed each year for Veteran's Day serving as a visual reminder to all who pass by of the sacrifices our veterans have made. After the display period, the signs are carefully stored to be used again in future years.

With over 1,300 veterans residing in McIntosh County and another 800 laid to rest here, dating back to the American Revolution, there is incredible potential for this project to grow. Your participation not only honors a loved one but also helps the community recognize the depth of sacrifice made by so many.

For a one-time fee of $35, you can have a sign created for a veteran in your life. This small contribution covers the cost of printing and ensures that your veteran will be honored in Darien’s annual display for years to come.
